In 1967, Takoma decided to re-record Fahey's Blind Joe Death for the stereo market. Thus, although the songs here were first recorded by Fahey for his rare, self-pressed edition of Blind Joe Death from 1959, this actually marks the third version of the record, each of which had presented different performances of the same material. To make matters more confusing, it was issued with the same catalog number as the 1964 release that had mixed cuts from the 1959 Blind Joe Death LP with 1964 remakes of Blind Joe Death material.
