Fresh off the vinyl press, Patachi Kid’s self titled debut EP has made quite an entrance into Nashville’s music scene. “Patachi Kid” is a four track album written by singer/songwriter Margaret Phillips and musician/engineer Jesse Samler. This EP is an impressive combination of dramatic vocals, expressive lyrics and intricate musicianship. Phillips’ powerful, yet graceful voice has a slight southern ‘twang’ that fits perfectly in the southern soul-rock she and Samler have created. This record features sophisticated drum rhythms and delicate auxiliary details that give it nice movement without making it too busy. Patachi Kid’s mature lyrics and well thought-out song structure showcase their songwriting talent which is impressive considering how young they actually are. “Patachi Kid” is a refreshing change of pace from the cookie-cutter alternative country Nashville has been pumping out lately.
