On her soulful debut, Your Woman, R&B newcomer Sunshine Anderson warms listeners with a rich soprano reminiscent of Mary J. Blige's (particularly on the hip-hop soul-laced “Better Off”). Although the South Carolina native sounds nothing like her quirky, bohemian-soul manager and mentor, Macy Gray, Anderson has her own distinct appeal. The disc’s opening interlude proclaims: “Everybody needs a little sunshine…to brighten up your day.” Whether she’s sharing a tale of heartbreak with her sister-friends on the kick-your-triflin’-man-to-the-curb anthem “Heard It All Before” or offering a forward invitation to a potential suitor on the bluesy “Lunch and Dinner,” this around-the-way girl spreads her ray of light and shows that she’s Everywoman.
