Oddity’s much anticipated full length debut album, ‘Settle Down,’ is finally here. This alt-rock power trio from Chicago, via the United Kingdom, is fresh off a name change and musical reinvention of themselves. I must say, I really like what the band formerly known as Fletcher, is doing. Don’t let their name fool you. These boys make some serious noise. There’s nothing odd about that. To the contrary, their music is tight as their drummer, Tom Fry. His furious drumming drives virtually every song on the album, thus allowing brothers/bandmates Harvey and Oscar Baker to get ferocious with their fretwork. “My Disposition” screams through the chorus and slams itself into an abrupt ending. “Let Me Breathe” changes pitch and switches frequency as the guitar reverb and vocals vie for attention. “Ghost” greets the listener with percussive force and fades out with some screeching string stylings from out of this world leaving you wondering what the hell just happened. “Get Out of My Hair” is the hardest hitter on the album with its high speed blow dry, banging’ bouffant beat, and heavily picked distortion. Be careful here, this one will suck the paint off your house and give your family a permanent orange afro. “Nite Owl” is another track worth mentioning. If your ADHD only affords you three minutes and 34 seconds to check out new music, this song serves well to spell out what this band is all about. This is definitely an Oddity that is worthy of your attention.
